Five real heritage destinations to consider in Vietnam
These destinations have official UNESCO listings. They are spread across different regions, so choose a few that fit your route.

Northern Vietnam: Ha Long–Cat Ba and Trang An
Ha Long Bay–Cat Ba Archipelago is known for limestone islands and marine scenery. Check the vessel operator, itinerary and weather cancellation rules before a cruise. Trang An in Ninh Binh combines limestone landscapes with cultural heritage; follow the designated routes and local boat-trip instructions.
Central Vietnam: Phong Nha, Hoi An and Hue
Phong Nha-Ke Bang is known for karst landscapes and caves; visit only authorised routes and book specialised expeditions through approved operators. Hoi An Ancient Town preserves a historic trading-port setting. The Complex of Hue Monuments includes the former imperial capital and associated sites, which are not all in one walkable area.
Travel with context
Use the official listings below to understand each site’s heritage value. Follow conservation rules, dress respectfully at places of worship and avoid removing natural or historic objects. Do not treat generic travel photos as evidence of a specific destination or hotel.
