Walking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City: two separate routes
These cities are in different regions. Treat these as two independent walks, not a one-day transfer itinerary.
Hanoi: Hoan Kiem and the Old Quarter
Start around Hoan Kiem Lake and choose nearby Old Quarter streets for architecture, daily life and food. Check current access and dress expectations for Ngoc Son Temple. Keep the route short and pause in heat or rain; pavements and traffic affect walking time.
Ho Chi Minh City: central District 1
Explore the Central Post Office area and Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, then allow a separate visit for the Independence Palace. Check hours, tickets and rules at each stop; maintenance or events may limit access. Older photos do not establish that an interior is currently open.
Meals and breaks
Choose food using menus, clear prices and dietary needs rather than unsupported “best” claims. Alternate walking with shaded or indoor stops and use licensed transport for longer distances. Save an offline map and accommodation address and keep belongings secure in busy areas.
